Welcome to our church community! My name is Rev. Martin Ferris and I have the privilege of serving as the Area Minister for the South & East Leicestershire Area, encompassing the communities of Abbots Road, Wigston Magna, Whetstone, Oadby, South Wigston, and Saffron Lane.
Before embarking on my journey towards ordained ministry, I dedicated nine meaningful years as a lay pastor in a Local Ecumenical Partnership (LEP) that brought together the United Reformed Church, SEBA (South East Baptist Association), and Anglican denominations. This enriching experience underscored my appreciation for ecumenism and the vital role it plays in fostering unity and cooperation within the body of Christ.
I received my training for ordained ministry at Westminster College Cambridge, one of education for learning centres for the United Reformed Church. This period was not only formative in broadening my theological understanding, but also deepened my commitment to serve with compassion and integrity. My journey at Westminster College instilled in me an insightful respect and appreciation for the diverse ways in which God’s love is expressed through different traditions.
I am blessed to share my life with my supportive wife Charlotte, two incredible daughters, and three delightful grandchildren, each of whom brings their own light and joy into my world. Their love continuously inspires me and strengthens my ministry.
At the heart of my vocation is an unwavering commitment to ecumenism. I am committed to building and nurturing close relationships across differing faith communities, focusing on our shared values and aspirations. It is my strong belief that through working together, we can realise a common purpose of love, peace and service.
In addition to ecumenism, I am deeply passionate about my roles as both an evangelist and an apologist. As an evangelist, I am driven to share the transformative message of Christ’s love and salvation, inspiring individuals to embark on and deepen their personal faith journeys. Meanwhile, as an apologist, I am committed to engaging thoughtfully with worldview questions and doubts about the Christian faith. I cherish the opportunities for dialogue, understanding and growth that arise through respectful and open conversations.
Through my ministry, I strive to create welcoming spaces where individuals can explore their faith journeys, experience the warmth and inclusivity of church community and reach out to others with the love and compassion that Christ exemplified.
Thank you for visiting our site. I look forward to connecting with each of you, fostering a community rooted in unity, purpose, and love.
