The URC is one of the newest of the free churches. It was formed from the Congregational and Presbyterian Churches and the Churches of Christ. Although we are a small denomination, we are very open to developing new ideas and new ways of worship. We are inclusive and we have members with a wide variety of approaches to Christianity. The church functions through its councils that are constituted locally by means of its Elders and Church meeting. The purpose of these meetings is to discuss and make responsible decisions for the continued life and witness of the church under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
The area is made up of 6 URC Churches which are Abbots Road, Oadby, Saffron Lane, South Wigston, Whetstone, Wigston Magna URC. The Area works together as a family, sharing resources and ministry, but each church has its own identity. We rejoice that with God’s help we have journeyed together, learning more about each other, sharing in joint activities, supporting each other, and committing ourselves to continuing this journey under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Our churches are situated to the south and east of the city of Leicester. We serve the towns of Oadby, Wigston Magna, South Wigston, the village of Whetstone and the Leicester suburbs of Saffron Lane and Eyres Monsell and the area of Abbots Road.
